When was the last time you interacted with any sort of wildlife?

Last night I was sitting in the greenhouse with my cat Colonel enjoying a bowl of Saddleman's Blend in the good Peterson briar when we heard the oddest noise. It was a noise we often heard in the greenhouse, but tonight it was louder and closer than I had ever heard it before. At first I thought it might have been tree limbs creaking in the wind. But the sound was more like an animal sound, maybe from one of the nine litters of kittens that have recently blessed May Cottage. Yet, the little squeak-peeps were not exactly kittenese. Frogs perhaps? The sound was somewhat croaky, but that still didn't seem to be right. As I sat in the darkness smoking my pipe and listening, the Colonel hopped off my lap and disappeared into the darkness. Moments later from behind my chair I heard, Squeep... FWAP! Squeep... FWAP! Squeep... FWAP! FWAP! FWAP!
I jumped up and turned on the light. There in the corner sat the Colonel watching a little gecko-type lizard that had wriggled between the inside plastic sheeting and the framing beams of the greenhouse. The little lizard was making the mysterious squeak-peep noise, and every time it did, FWAP! Colonel smacked it flat against the board with a mighty paw.
"Hey! Cut that out," I scolded, scooping up the cat. The little lizard squeeped again and the cat squirmed, trying to get free.
Then we heard a second squeep, its timbre a little deeper than the first. We glanced around and discovered its source, a second lizard clinging to the inside of the translucent greenhouse wall. As we watched and listened the little lizards began to serenade each other.
Squeep... SQUEEP.... Squeep... SQUEEP...
It was a tiny lizard love ballad, a duet for gecko and strings not meant for the ears of man or cat. How romantic! I didn't know they did that. I felt privileged to have witnessed a tiny fragment of the dance of life that surrounds us at all times, but of which we are rarely aware.
We took our leave and left the lizards to whatever wonders the night held for them. Later, as I lay in bed, I could hear Victoria Rose breathing softly beside me, the cat purring against my chest, and just beyond my bedroom window, the squeep, squeep of lizards in love.
What is your favorite kind of bagel and what do you put on it?

My favorite bagel? Why an Infinite Bagel, of Course. Those dark-matter raisins that really stay with you. For some odd reason the Infinite Bagel T-shirt is the best seller on TDBR at CafePress.
Actually, my favorite bagel is a cinnamon raisin bagel with honey almond cream cheese. Yummy.
